Why are you not using either the firewall-cmd command line tool or the 
firewall-config GUI. to change
settings in the firewalld zones?

Don't forget that firewalld had the concept of run-time settings and permanent 
settings.  If one modifies
the run-time settings they'd have to do a "run-time to permanent" command to 
save the settings
such that they will be used the next time firewalld is started/reloaded.
