I wonder if the card itself is bad.  It uses
a VIA chipset and VIA is kind-of-sort-of
known for being screw ups.

Anyway, I wrote the developer/maintainer of
parport_pc and offered to send both cards
to him for his testing, but have not heard
back yet.  (I have another card that floods
Core 2 after the first print.)
