next time these delays are happening, open up a terminal and run "htop"
and see what is using all your cpu. if it's not installed you can run
"dnf install htop".  Check your log with "journalctl -b -0" or similar,
when some gui thing happens and you don't know what it is caused by.

regarding the fwupd message: a quick web search shows that this is
gnome-software trying to update your firmware and failing. all your
problems are probably due to gnome-software. document-viewer and gedit
slowness is due to something else using all the system resources in the
background: probably gnome-software related. I already told you about
alternatives to gnome-software in a previous email so i leave that/this
to you.
