spa3e refers to "Statistics and Probability with Applications (High
School), 3rd Edition
<https://store.macmillanlearning.com/ca/product/Statistics-and-Probability-with-Applications-High-School/p/1319244327>"
[now 4th Ed., so
spa4e may replace spa3e].

You should contact the authors for advice. They may be using the jstat
<https://github.com/jstat/jstat> javascript stats library for the
underlying statistical calculations. You can certainly do the
calculations with R, but existing GUI's may
be quite different. In the short run students may find this difficult,
but in the long run they will benefit
from some familiarity with such a widely used stats package as R.
