That's about the same as asking:  How is using Evolution better than
logging into a webmail page?

Using a large, and always very buggy, web browser to do chat is
unwieldy.  But, using a small, separate, chat program is easy to do at
the same time.  You don't have to flip out of the page you're reading
to chat.
