Hello, I have a Dell laptop, XPS M1330. I had this problem with f12 originally but didn't go deeper with it. Now I have updated the same system to f13 and experiment the same. It has an hdmi-out connector and I'm trying to correctly configure it to send audio/video to hdmi only. The connection is to a Panasonic 37" TV. Audio is ok. For video, after reading the tv specs I set these relevant parts in xorg.conf
Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" Option "Xinerama" "0" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor1" VendorName "Panasonic" ModelName "TX-L37G10E" HorizSync 31.0 - 69.0 VertRefresh 59.0 - 86.0 EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "GeForce 8400M GS" Option "NoLogo" "True" Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-1" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Device0" Monitor "Monitor1" DefaultDepth 24 Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP-1" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1920x1080" ViewPort 0 0 EndSubSection EndSection Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "Enable" EndSection It works and sends audio/video only to the tv, while the laptop display remains black, but it seems that upper and lower rows of the screen are not shown... For example I don't see the top and bottom main bars. xdpyinfo shows: screen #0: dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels (650x366 millimeters) resolution: 75x75 dots per inch depths (7): 24, 1, 4, 8, 15, 16, 32 root window id: 0x15a depth of root window: 24 planes so it seems correct Xorg.0.log shows these warning lines: [ 263.422] (WW) NVIDIA(0): Panasonic-TV (DFP-1)'s EDID does not contain a maximum image [ 263.422] (WW) NVIDIA(0): size; cannot compute DPI from Panasonic-TV (DFP-1)'s [ 263.422] (WW) NVIDIA(0): EDID. Anyway I could also try to use nouveau driver and see if the problem arises with it too... In the mean time any suggestion? When X Windows System starts, the tv shows the label WIDE 1080p So it seems it accepts the 1920x1080 resolution.
