What does "online" (in quotes) mean?

I ask since, until now, I don't recall anyone mentioning the 2 most important
words when it comes
to backups.  "Off-Site".

I know the chances are small, but not zeo, that one's house could catch fire or
suffer another catastrophe.
But if it does, that "drive in a drawer" is not likely to survive.
