Thanks very much. We may have been looking at different posts, so I would 
appreciate if you could point me to some sources.

Likely true, this is not a solution.

Are there alternatives to pango for terminal, etc? I like xterm but it does not 
have the ability for tabs and transparency. The rest is not as important as my 
font.
