information...
I'm running Fedora 30, and I don't have a root password, seems that my
password isn't even required when installing apps and what not (Thought
it was supposed to be created upon install did they do away with THAT
too? LoL!) I had no idea about the "X vs Wayland" issue, so I'm eager to
try that and see if it works. I'll report back here once I get out of
work (Amazon....uggh! this "Prime Day" is a KILLER! Hahahaha!) and see
if that solves my woes!)

Log out and log back in with X instead of Wayland.
This is the correct answer. Choose the "Gnome on Xorg" session at the
login screen after you click on your user name. Wayland does not
support applications running as root. I did see that soon X
applications will be able to run as root under Wayland.
