That wasn't intended to be a yes or no question. I assume from the
answer below that it's a terminal console.
Try using "kill -HUP" on the gnome-shell process.

Or after I can relog on a gnome shell (after I killed from the console)?
From the console, instead of the kill -9.
Does the mouse pointer still move when this happens?
