As far as T-Bird and Google are concerned. I have the following setting in my Google Account. "To protect your account, apps and devices that use less secure sign-in technology are blocked." And, I use T-Bird with my Security Settings as SSL/TLS and OAuth2. So, it seems Google is just fine and not blocking T-Bird usage.
