None of my systems experience what you're talking about.

3 of them are VM's which I mostly access via ssh.  But when I do login 
graphically I've
not had any problems.  The other is a laptop that can sit for over a week 
without being
used.  I just move the touch-pad a bit and the login screen shows without delay.
