The problem only affects LVM on software RAID whose metadata is 0.90 version.  Since 0.90 can't checkpoint a recovery action, one (admittedly very risky) option is to replace the RAID metadata.

mdadm --stop /dev/md/md-name
mdadm --create /dev/md/md-name --run --level=1 --raid-devices=2 --metadata=1.0 --assume-clean /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1

The set would get a new UUID, so you may need to adjust kernel arguments after doing so.  As always: make backups before doing risky things.
