You can discover lots of things about what the heck is on
your system with a a magic rpm command:

rpm -q -i -f <some filename>

or (if you happen to know the name of the package)

rpm -q -i <some rpm name>

There is usually descriptive text and a URL pointing
to the project site for more reading (unless they've
moved everything and the URL is dead :-).
