Well, k3b has, under tools, "Rip Video DVD".
I recall using it in the past, but can't find a DVD in my home to test.

I think both Ed and I think your libdvdcss install may be an issue.
Have you tried using vobcopy? It also uses libdvdread and libdvdcss but at
least it is command line and quite simple.
But it plays flawlessly!!!
Well that's the thing. Unless you've done some CSS chattering at the drive it
will refuse to decrypt those sectors (usually the VOBs - the other files and
filesystem metadata are generally in the clear) and you get I/O errors. because
the drive knows those sectors are forbidden - I imagine a marker bit is used,
one per encrypted sector.
Your DVD _player_ can speak to its drive and say "hello, I am a trusted device
and I have one of the secret keys" and access the content. The libdvdcss
library brute forces the weak encryption to gain access. The drives themselves
are complicit in the DRM.
