  ah, i had totally overlooked the POSIX compliance aspect of this,
thanks for pointing that out. so for reference, there is the
definition of an LSB conforming implementation:

and the alleged POSIX utilities:

both of which refer to "more" but not to "less". ok, that's a useful
distinguishing feature.
