This is my desktop running Mate (not gnome shell) with nvidia drivers, 
which require Xorg. I've had the exact same configuration for ages (and 
video was working). I don't know that it's a desktop problem. Maybe SELinux 
is getting in the way, but I'm not seeing any alerts. It's both chrome and 
skype.
