So, this is an older system where the owner does not wish to upgeade. So I thought I would try and install TB from a downloaded rpm:
yum -y install thunderbird-38.0.1-2.fc20.x86_64.rpm Loaded plugins: langpacks, refresh-packagekit Examining thunderbird-38.0.1-2.fc20.x86_64.rpm: thunderbird-38.0.1-2.fc20.x86_64 Marking thunderbird-38.0.1-2.fc20.x86_64.rpm to be installed Resolving Dependencies --> Running transaction check ---> Package thunderbird.x86_64 0:38.0.1-2.fc20 will be installed --> Finished Dependency Resolution Dependencies Resolved ======================================================================================================================= Package Arch Version Repository Size ======================================================================================================================= Installing: thunderbird x86_64 38.0.1-2.fc20 /thunderbird-38.0.1-2.fc20.x86_64 116 M Transaction Summary ======================================================================================================================= Install 1 Package Total size: 116 M Installed size: 116 M Downloading packages: Running transaction check Running transaction test Transaction test succeeded Running transaction (shutdown inhibited) Installing : thunderbird-38.0.1-2.fc20.x86_64 1/1 Error unpacking rpm package thunderbird-38.0.1-2.fc20.x86_64 error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/lib64/thunderbird/dictionaries: cpio: rename Verifying : thunderbird-38.0.1-2.fc20.x86_64 1/1 Failed: thunderbird.x86_64 0:38.0.1-2.fc20 Complete! ====================================== cpio rename????? Since when did cpio fail to rename something? $ rpm -q cpio cpio-2.11-28.fc20.x86_64 This has never been a problem I even re-installed cpio without any problems. but installing TB still fails with this error. At the verge of giving up, but still willing to hear from others about this issue.
