I thought sure I had used it before, but I don't know when or for what.
I have solved the current problem by changing the target idea of how to
access the information, but I would still like to be able to get the
scanner to work.

I have read through the "--help" and the man pages on sane, but
couldn't get any progress.

It would seem really simple to send a command to a scanner and retrieve
at least a bitmap of a document.  I guess it is more difficult than
that.

Maybe I'll take a cut at it once I get a windows system in house and
can monitor the exchange.
