Ok I found a solution right here: https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/question/94500/connection-via-vpn-pptp-does-not-work-unless-firewall-is-disabled/ Basically GRE traffic is no longer allowed through the firewall so one need to do the following (as root): |firewall-cmd --permanent --direct --add-rule ipv4 filter INPUT 0-p gre -j ACCEPT firewall-cmd --permanent --direct --add-rule ipv6 filter INPUT 0-p gre -j ACCEPT firewall-cmd --reload ||modprobe nf_conntrack_pptp nf_conntrack_proto_gre And then it works for me.
