Addendum: Fedora 24 in the first few months on this machine had crashes every now and then before the above mentioned changes: https://lists.x.org/archives/xorg/2017-May/058744.html I'm not sure: I think I had one crash where the logs on the machine were complaining about CPUs freezing or locking or someth. like that. I don't know what that was: were the CPUs locking the software, or vice-versa? At this time I had, I think, no chance for a CPU replacement any more, so I'm just crossing my fingers now, hoping it was some software related bug ...
