That's weird.  Any other package updates that might have caused the
problem?

You could go here and get the appropriate version for your system:
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=39
Then, in the directory where you downloaded the package, run
dnf -C downgrade [package name]
I notice that there is a later version of thunderbird there that you
could update with
dnf -C update [package name]

There is an issue with gmail accounts in thunderbird described here,
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1466136
perhaps that is what is biting you?
