You don't say whether you use dnf from the command line, but if you do, you can add the following to your update command, and kernel updates will be skipped. dnf -x kernel\* update When you want to update a kernel, just remove that from the update command. I compile custom kernels, and use that to prevent them from being overwritten. I think there used to be a way to put something like this in the configuration file for yum, and I thought dnf as well.
