I have a 6TB WD My Book attached. Has only partition 1 (which is the 
entire disk), formatted as EXT3,
and connected via usb - Absolutely zero problems.
I have absolutely no idea why your system is choking on 3 TB.

Thanks much for all of everyone's help....  Not sure there is anything
