thanks for the fast answer. The machine we are connecting and exporting the display, is a virtual machine, which is shared by several members of a team. They are travelling and sometimes the connection is not that fast, so I am looking for a way to decrease the quality of the exported display. For example, rdesktop has options "-g" and "-a", for geometry and colour depth respectively. I can not find such option for firefox/chrome, so I was looking for another way to control it, probably like a shell variable. I will look into vncserver meanwhile.
