It did that with LVM, when I set up my laptop many years ago, but didn't
with other partitioning schemes.  That was the only reason I put up with
the LVM nonsense on a laptop.

I don't know whether non-LVM setups will only ask once for the same
password, I haven't installed that way for ages.
