That won't take effect till you login though, right?

I think I have a virtual machine at home I could never get resolution
to stick on, and I put the xrandr call in a script under 
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/
(if I'm remembering correctly). I believe those get invoked when
X starts, so the resolution will be correct in the login screen as well
(or if that isn't the place, there is some place where scripts get
invoked at X start time :-).
