Have you checked some other sites? Are you sure it doesn't work? Try this one:

https://www.cyscape.com/showbrow.asp

It should show something like

 JavaScript      True
 JavaScriptEnabled       True

If it doesn't, then are you using NoScript or some similar extension?

If not, try enabling javascript in about:config
Set javascript.enabled to true if it isn't already.

Recompiling firefox will probably  lead you nowhere.
