Nope, Samsung does the same thing with their SSD drives. You can only
update their firmware from windows as well.

I've seen some stuff about ways to create a Windows live CD or USB,
but never tried it (instead I check before I buy and don't buy any
hardware that requires windows for things like firmware updates :-).

You still have to have a copy of Windows for the live media, but
at least you don't have to install it anywhere.
