Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) is an audio data compression scheme optimized for speech coding." Use a tool like sox to convert the files to mp3 or wav directly. sox /mypath/my_audio.amr /mypath/my_audio.mp3 or sox /mypath/my_audio.amr /mypath/my_audio.wav Then work with them in audacity.
