Advice I've read elsewhere:  If you're going to use hardware RAID, buy a
spare controller (i.e. buy at least two of the same model).  You don't
want to lose all access to your drives at some time in the future, if
your card fails, and there's no suitable drop-in replacement.
 
Changing the controller card is going to be an awful lot easier than
restoring all your backups to a new RAID.  Or worse, losing everything
because you have no backup.
