Mark, what do you have after service bluetooh start ?

Do you have an exit status 0?

Did you check /var/og/messages after running the command?

If you receive any other exit status than 0 then your bluetooth is not 
configured to run at level 5 (maybe you disable it)?

Check chkconfig --list bluetooth to see if its configured to run at 
level 5.

If not then issue chkconfig bluetooth on, then the above command again 
to verify that the command succeeded. After that issue the service
bluetooth start, then see the messages.
