Absolutely. Since I have no access to BIOS settings to put the computer to
sleep, I reboot every day. And there's not a trace of /dev/dvd , only
/dev/dvd1 and /dev/dvdrw1, which are both links to /dev/sr0.

When you don't have problems, it's not the kind of settings you check
closely but, since my dvd players were pointing to /dev/dvd, I would think
this is the normal setting.

I believe the devices are created at boot time, no? And I even have no idea
how I could prevent /dev/dvd form being created.
