Actually there is a lot to talk about from your start point. 

 

-          I don’t use SMPP right know but some year ago, once you have your 
Telecom account is pretty simple to set up

-          Short number is the same as long ones

-          About answer you must do this in your application level, kannel can 
receive messages and send it to a URL (api) so you can take it and store it in 
a DB, after process it

i will try to install kannel with smppsim for my test environment while i will 
agrement smpp conection with telecom.

 

Do you have some tips about for support smpp, send answers (status) to my 
customer, how i use short numbers with kannel and so on.
