A few years back there was the openss7 project, and they considered creating drivers for kannel. Unfortunately they discontinued due to lack of interest.

Any luck with opensource?
This is not only the cost but also for customized development.

No, Kannel cannot use the Asterisk SS7 drivers. They are for voice, not sms.
Chimit however, does provide Kannel SS7 drivers (IS41) that are currently being completed.
They are commercial software, not open source.

I am using asterisk-chan_ss7 for SS7 interconnect with SMSC for our voice circuit.
How can we use this setup? will appreciate any link.

No. For that you need SS7 connectivity and kannel doesn't have such drivers. Besides you would have to have SS7 numbering, lines and HLR, and be a PSP (phone service provider).

Hi,

Can i use kannel as stand alone SMSC that can offer connectivity to other local or remote clients?

or this is just a client that can connect to multiple SMSCs.
