AT SMSC does NOT support user/password for connection... this might be the
problem.
Can you disable modems user/password or set it to blanc?
this way kannel will send a CR when trying to autodetect speed and the modem
will think is an answer to teh user/pass prompts
If not you might need to patch smsc_at in order to accept user/pass
parameters
Neverthelesss I think is strange that the debug log does NOT show the
user/pass prompt in response to the CR sent to it
