Unfortunately this is not a solution. I own a multitech modem, it was working ok but one given day it simply started to give that same generic error when trying to send sms.

As in your case the SIM chip works ok if used with a cell phone, but not in the modem, neither any another SIM chip.

Nothing seems to be wrong with the modem, except AT+CREG command reports status 5 (registered, roaming) instead of 1 (registered, home network) despite the fact the device is inside coverage area, even more, AT+COPS? shows the correct PLMN. Which means the modem is registered in the correct network and yet shows roaming status.

Every other function of the modem works ok, but now I have little use for that device.
I gave up.
