I had that problem when compiling kannel in fed5. however when using
the fed5 rpm included in fed 5 i didn had that problem

Thanks Alvaro, that did the trick!

Strange actually; I originally copied the startscript from the Ubuntu Kannel
package (where both bearerbox and smsbox started without dífficulties). When
I moved the script to a Suse SLES 9 server with a self-compiled Kannel
1.4.1I changed the sleep value from 1 second to 5 seconds. It wasn't
until I
followed your suggestion and went to 15 seconds that things actually began
working...
