yes have got the samba modem working eventually;
got it working on cygwin first though;
then realized the reason I could open the device but not talk to it is a baud rate problem,
so must set modem speed to 115200 - altho I did think I tried that using minicom, anyway it is working now.
You need at least kernel 2.6.17  I reckon.
On windoz any baud rate works, because the driver you install for it probably does the non-standard serial baud rate.

Hi,
We are successfully using the following Siemens GSM modems:

MC39i
TC45
MC35i

but (being well acquainted with the source code) I believe that any
HayesATcommand-enabled device will do the job.
