Hi,

I am currently running kannel-1.0.3-1 installed from rpm on Red Hat 8.0
system. I am using Kannel to connect to a Logica SMSC via SMPP. When doing
this, I face some connectivity issues and the gateway hangs and stops
receiving new messages. In the access log, there is a section that reads
like:

2004-03-19 09:55:32 Received a message - SMSC:mysmsc sender:xxxxxxx msg:
'xxxxxxxxxx'
2004-03-19 10:02:07 Log begins

At this point I have to kill the kannel processes and restart kannel
manually, so the log file finally reads something like:

2004-03-19 09:55:32 Received a message - SMSC:mysmsc sender:xxxxxxx msg:
'xxxxxxxxxx'
2004-03-19 10:02:07 Log begins
2004-03-19 10:26:13 Log ends
2004-03-19 10:27:50 Log begins

I have a wrapper that restarts kannel whenever it crashes, but this doesn't
seem to be helping.

I would like to upgrade the version of kannel to a more recent version which
has a more stable SMPP gateway. So which version should I use? I see that
the latest stable and development releases are over a year old now. Should I
use a CVS version? Also will I need to change my config files for the new
version, or can I use the existing config files. I inherited this system and
I would like to make minimum changes to this system.
