I've been finding something very weird when using Kannel over SMPP.
Sending a message causes the destination phone to receive gibberish
unless I set coding=2 (8-bit coding according to the manual), whence I
obtain a readable message. On the other hand, all the data I receive
from the SMSC comes out as similar gibberish to me. I can't find any
configuration parameters to make the SMPP driver receive all data as
8-bit coded the same way the data I send out is... I can't even
configure a plain text SMS service send its data out in the same way I
do SMS push message. What could be happening here and what can be done
to fix it? I'm using Kannel 1.3.1 on Gentoo Linux, and the SMPP SMSC is
one made and managed by ZTE Corporation (http://www.zte.com.cn).
