So this begs the question -- why doesn't Kafka join the mainstream and have a 1.0 release? The 0.x versioning makes one think that this code is, at best, beta.

Kafka is a bit odd in that its "major" releases are labeled as a normal "minor" release number because Kafka hasn't decided to make an official 1.0 release yet.
