The doc at the beginning of OffsetIndex.scala explains the format of an index file. To inspect the contents of an index file, you can use the DumpLogSegment<https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KAFKA/System+Tools#SystemTools-DumpLogSegment>tool
