You are looking at the wrong path in ZK. The correct path for consumer offset is /consumers/[groupId]/offsets/[topic]/[partitionId] -> long (offset). For more details on our ZK layout, see https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KAFKA/Kafka+data+structures+in+Zookeeper
