Hi -

Thank you Sascha for your help. I am still dealing with an issue - but I
think that I need more info from my people managing the ldap server

I did have one more question, im not to familiar with it, or how exactly
to word it.

But I am also looking to incorporate NTLM authentication, this way users
are not prompted for a login.

I know it has been implemented with Apache 2.0.59 (painstakingly)

Any ideas ?

No, auth name is the realm; i.e. the authentication context (provided
within
the login box by the browser).

With Apache 2.2, you need to add the line
  AuthBasicProvider ldap
If you don't, Apache presumes the file provider and looks for an
AuthUserFile directive which you don't provide here (because you want
ldap).
That's the reason for the "NULL filename" error message.
