I believe that Apache just reports the contents of the User-Agent HTTP header. Whatever UA information you find in the logs is what IE sent.

We are still confirming this -- but prior to IE6/SP2 we had no problem displaying (in the 'combined' Apache logs) the complete 'user agent' information from all the win32 clients. Based on our research, all IE6/SP2 clients (running both XP and W2K3 server) now ONLY display a 'generic' UA (in the Apache logs) of: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Win32) This is displayed irregardless of the client registry settings, e.g. SV1, etc. When verifying the UA from the client browser using 'javascript:alert(navigator.userAgent)' EVERYTHING is there. I have tried different tweaks of the XP/W2K3 server registry settings (MSDN article) but can't seem to find an answer. Other browsers like Firefox, etc. display their full UA string just fine with my current Apache version/config. I was hoping someone else has seen this behavior and could comment on any workarounds -- like I said, didn't see any in the forums, etc. My next step is to sniff the client to server traffic during the autoproxy exchange to make sure it is actually being sent.
