I'm not sure how your setup works now, but I'd be willing to bet that you could simply plug your current server into your router, set up port forwarding, and that would be that. All of the dynamic IP updaters I've ever seen don't use your computer's internal IP address. Rather, they go out to the internet and get your address from a webpage somewhere, and use that value to send to your DNS provider.
