For what it is worth, I have found UK's Kalender, https://www.ukrebs-software.de/ is excellent. I put all my appointments into it. I can set it to remind me a couple of days in advance so that I don't get any surprises. The reminder comes up automatically on my screen, on top of anything I may be doing and if I am busy I can then set a time when I want it to display again. And it can be set up for important regular reminders like 'turn on the electric blanket!' etc. And finally it is freeware.
