After finalising the setup in Sigil, I run the epub through Amazon's Previewer to check how it displays and if all's good, Previewer will export a .kpf file which is one of KDP's preferred formats for uploading (they'll also accept epub). I'm not sure about what's exactly inside the kpf file but it's 'enormous' compared to the original epub file although a subsequent download from Amazon is only about the same size as the epub. So possibly the kpf contains several variants that Amazon uses for different readers.
I also check the epub display in Adobe Digital Editions. One thing is for sure, not all ereading devices are equal and sometimes they can give an awful display. 'Drop Caps' are one of the worst for variability when you compare the appearance on different reading devices.
