LibreOffice uses the SANE backends, just as xsane does, just as pretty much every other scanning program does. Do you have the sane package installed? Your scanner is listed as using the sane-pixma driver, but is marked as untested. See http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-CANON Generally, buying a scanner or other hardware device for use with linux is unwise unless it has been tested and reported as compatible.
